Tinkering with First-Person-View Drones and Airplanes

Over the fall and winter I spent some time building and flying a few FPV aircraft. First is this wee little guy…

Flywoo Firefly Nano 1s

Next is a 1.8m wingspan Super Cub. In these pictures I’m tinkering with the flight controller which includes the speed control for the motor. This flight controller is running ardupilot and I use an app called Mission Planner to interact with it.

In one of these I’m testing out the FPV camera. In others I’m testing out the placement of all the guts. Below is a video of this guy in flight from its perspective and from my brother’s FPV drone.

In January of 2025 I took a different airplane out to a local school for a test flight. This is a Ranger 2000. This video was captured with a RunCam action camera and an FPV camera on the nose.

In late April 2025 I drove out to Succor Creek in Oregon and found a nice perch to launch my Ranger 2000. It’s a 2 meter wingspan plane with a flight controller running ardupilot. This airplane is using Crossfire for control and 5.8 ghz analog video for the FPV. I also mount a runcam on the nose which is how I captured this video:

I like taking pictures and writing about my hobbies, sometimes.
